These are some of our favorite expressions and words.
Our canvas is a product of such concepts coming together.
And we have taken this canvas and dyed it with Japanese persimmon tannin.
We create our bags from this wonderfully organic colored and textured canvas for our consumers' everyday use.
The "P" and "T" in P. T. WORKS & DESIGN stand for "Persimmon Tannin".

ABOUT the HAND-CYED CANVAS with PERSIMMON TANNINThe thick #4 Canvas comes from the sail of a sailboat and is often used as floor sheets in gymnasiums. (A thin #11 Canvas is used for the POKA Series.)
Our decorative patterns are printed using a method that prevents staining on white surfaces. The white surfaces are therefore not colored but have preserved their original color.
Through a special wash cycle and a finishing method that is reverse to traditional persimmon tannin dyeing, we have succeeded in creating a rough look that resembles work clothes and a leather-like texture.

About Persimmon Tannin…
There are written records of Japanese persimmon tannin dating back to the Heian Era (794-1185AD).
Persimmon tannin has continued to play an essential role as an antiseptic, waterproofing, and insect repellant agent used on fishing nets, wood work, as well as as a basecoat on wooden architecture.
Persimmon tannin liquid is made by pulverizing premature astringent persimmons and then aging the compressed liquid for years.
The liquid gradually changes from a yellow green to its final mahogany color.
Items that are dyed using this persimmon tannin liquid will deepen over time, and users can enjoy the aging color with use.
With the added waterproofing effect, these persimmon tannin dyed bags may be ideal not only as fashion items but also for their practicality.
