"Manufactured in Koryo, Nara, known for its largest production volume in the nation"
This town, located in the northwest of Nara Prefecture, is proud to be number one in sock production in the nation.
This rural area is surrounded by rice fields.
It is also known for its many large ancient tombs from the 4th to 5th centuries.
A famous Japanese folktale, Kaguya-Hime, is also said to have been based here.

Sock production in Koryo began over 100 years ago during the 43rd year of the Meiji Era (1910).
It started when a man returned to former Umamicho (current Koryo) from a visit to America with a sock knitting machine.

Since the beginning of the Edo Era, this region began its second industry (next to agriculture) of textile manufacturing using Yamato cotton and Yamato Kasuri.
However, this industry slowly declined with time. And the sock manufacturing industry quickly took its place.

	"Packaging"
The round object attached to the sock is a collection of scraps from when the toe-end of the sock was created. As a result of sock mass production, Koryo produces an equal amount of these objects. They are donated to nursing homes nationwide to support rehabilitation through finger knitting activities.
Many people knit bath mats and little accessory cases. At Nara Station, you will find seating cushions made from these objects. And those leftover objects must be disposed of as industrial waste. They can easily be thrown away. But with a little creativity, they can be recycled into something usable.RoToTo has decided to reuse these objects to create packages that can be hung. We hope that our consumers will find a unique use for these rings also.
